Welcome to this premium edition of the FWNN. I’ve put together a collection of 17 publications that, from my research, are paying writers $500 (sometimes described as $0.50 per 1000 words) or more per commission.

Please note that rates can and do change on the fly, these are all accurate as of research and recent reports from writers.
Atlas Obscura is: ‘A definitive guidebook and friendly tour-guide to the world's most wondrous places. Travel tips, articles, strange facts and unique events.’ You can check out their full pitching guidelines here, but they pay $500 for 1000 words.
Broccoli is a publisher of ‘unusual delights’. From cannabis to mushrooms, snails to flowers, Broccoli's artful books, magazines, and printed goods are designed for counter cultural dreamers who love nature. They recently paid writers $0.50 a word for 1000 words for their music mag.
In These Times is an independent, nonprofit magazine dedicated to advancing democracy and economic justice, informing movements for a more humane world, and providing an accessible forum for debate about the policies that shape our future. While they pay slightly less for short dispatches and op-eds, you can expect $0.50 per word minimum for other articles.
