Hey,
Welcome to this premium edition of the FWNN. I’ve put together a collection of publications that, from my research, are paying writers $1 or more per word.
I know that finding paid writing opportunities is not always easy, so I wanted to collate some well-paying publications that you can pitch your work to. Sadly, there are less and less publications paying rates like this at present times, so I’ll do my best to find you what I can.
If you haven’t already read it, make sure to check out the recent FWNN premium post with a ton of helpful tips and pointers for pitching your work to editors.
Please note that I know all these publications pay $1 per word either from their websites, guidelines or feedback/reports from writers who have written for them recently. Rates can and do change, so please bear this in mind.
AFAR is a print and digital publication focused on experiential travel. Their rates start at $1 per word for the magazine, though the website pays slightly less than this at $0.50 per word.
New Scientist is a popular science magazine based in London and covers all aspects of science and technology. They pay around a dollar a word, though this may very ever so slightly. Check out their very thorough submission guidelines.
Discover Magazine “satisfies everyday curiosity with relevant and approachable science news, feature articles, photos and more.” They pay at least $1 a word for print, though a smaller fee for website only content. Read their submission guidelines.
