Chortle: A New Home for Humor Writing
Chortle is a daily humor publication that delivers sharp, original writing every weekday. We’re building a space where great humor thrives—and writers get paid. If you’ve got a funny piece under 600 words, we want to see it. We're currently able to pay $40 per post. Submit finished pieces to greg@chortle.blog with the word SUBMISSION and the name of the piece in the subject line.

Faber Academy has a range of scholarships available in January & February for writers including in fiction, poetry and novel writing. Check out all the details here.
Blue Earth Review’s BIPOC Emerging Writer Awards for 2025 are open for submissions. There is an option for free submissions too. Deadline is January 15th.
The Sidney Hillman Foundation awards the Hillman Prizes for Journalism in the U.S and Canada, as well as the monthly Sidney Awards for investigative journalism in service of the common good. Canadian prizes are open until January 15th.
The Bournemouth Writing Prize 2025 competition is now open! £500, 1-2-1 sessions and free tickets for winners of each category (poetry and short stories). Deadline for submissions is January 15th.
East Rock Films is an educational organization that seeks to inform and inspire viewers by bringing to life famous writers, artists, and their works. They have a scholarship available to students in the genre. To be eligible, you must be a junior or senior in high school or a freshman or sophomore in an accredited college, university, or community college in the U.S. or Canada. Pays $500 and is open until January 15th.
