FWN Newsletter: 46 Pitch Calls, Freelance & Remote Writing Opportunities!
22 opportunities to pitch to editors and 24 remote or freelance writing opportunities to check out this week.
Hello!
Things are all back to normal now. I do miss the sun though, I can’t lie. It’s been permanent cloud and drizzle since I got back home - the joys!
A quick reminder in case you missed it that I published a collection of 26 worldwide publications that will pay freelancers for writing related to climate, the environment and sustainability - with pay rates. Lots of good stuff in there to check out if you haven’t had a look yet.
Some of the publications accept work outside of just the environment and sustainability too, so you might find a new place to pitch an idea anyway!
Anyway, on with the opportunities, lots to check out as always this week! 22 pitch calls and 24 freelance or remote writing jobs.
Calls to Pitch
Joanna at Rest of World’s China desk is looking for accessible and engaging, rigorously reported and fact-checked stories of between 800-1200 words. “I want to see stories containing on-the-ground reporting whenever possible, with memorable characters that help readers understand the nuance and complexity of issues related to technology, business, culture and geopolitics.” Flat rate of US$750 plus reporting expenses.
Emily is now commissioning editor at Prospect UK. “Looking to commission essays and narrative features - any length up to 4,000 words. I’m also still editing the People section: 600-word profiles at the front of the magazine.” Rates unclear, but Emily did like my reply asking if rates were in the £100-£840 range so I am assuming that is the rough scope.
Emma looking for someone to write a 1,000-word piece about Canada’s Northwest Territories for Issue 10 of JRNYmag. Fee is £150. Submission is due end of October. Writers must have been to the NWT already, ideally within the last 12 months. Please send pitches with the subject “PITCH: NWT” to emma@jrnymag.com by EOP Monday 23 September. Please do not send pitches for other destinations at this stage!
