20 Publications Paying for Writing About Parenthood and Family
A collection of publications that pay freelancers for writing about parenthood and family.
Hello!
Welcome to the latest paid edition of the Freelance Writing Network. This week I’ve put together a collection of 20 publications that pay freelancers for writing about parenthood and family.
Having spent time throughout the last week searching for these opportunities, it does make me sad to see just how many publications have closed in recent years. Keep supporting journalism as best you can, because things are rough out there right now. I’m keeping everything crossed for better days ahead!
Remember: this is a mix of English language publications across the world. For freelancers, it doesn’t generally matter where you are pitching unless you have a strong link to a particular place - or the publication notes that they specifically require one. Editors are used to receiving freelance pitches from anywhere!
I’d also strongly recommend researching each publication thoroughly before sending your pitch in to an editor.
Scary Mommy is open to pitches relating to parenting. “In general, we’ll consider first-person pieces and personal essays, as well as reported lifestyle ideas (think health and wellness, sex and relationships, pregnancy and TTC, and general parenting content). We’ll also consider entertainment pitches — how a certain show reflects your parenting style, roundups and more.” Pitch guidelines here. Pay was anything from $0.30-$1/word as of 2022.
Parents’ mission is simple: to provide you with trustworthy advice and a supportive community as you raise the next generation of confident and compassionate kids. Editorial guidelines here. Many writers earn between $1-2 a word for work accepted here.
The Green Parent’s main objective is to provide information that empowers readers and supports them in being their own experts. They want you to be familiar with the issues they discuss and their standpoint on raising children, alternative health and environmental concerns. Pitch guide here. Pays £75 per 1000 words.
